Kyoto Machiya Tea Room

MUSUBI | Kyoto Machiya Japanese Language School

A quiet, short-term Japanese language service before stepping into everyday life in Kyoto.

The only Japanese language school in Kyoto where all classrooms are Washitsu (Tatami).

Musubi is not an ordinary language school.

Unlike typical language schools in office buildings, Musubi offers a unique learning environment within a traditional Kyoto townhouse. We focus on 'Dignified Learning'—no tests, no homework pressure, just pure cultural immersion and practical conversation in a space rich with history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about studying in Kyoto

Do I need a student visa?

For our short-term courses (up to 4 weeks), most students do not need a student visa. You can enter Japan on a standard tourist visa (Temporary Visitor status), which allows stays of up to 90 days for most nationalities.

Can I join if I am a complete beginner?

Yes! Our 'Survival' and 'Beginner' levels are designed specifically for those with zero prior knowledge. We will teach you the essentials to navigate Kyoto confidently from day one.

Do you provide accommodation?

We do not have on-campus dormitories, but we partner with several local Machiya guesthouses and share houses within walking distance. We can assist you in booking a place that suits your budget and style.

What is the age range of students?

Musubi is designed for adults. Our students typically range from 25 to 60+ years old. They are professionals, creatives, and travelers who value a mature, quiet learning environment.

Are the cultural workshops mandatory?

No, they are optional add-ons. You can choose to focus solely on the language course, or mix and match workshops like Tea Ceremony or Ikebana based on your interests.
